Profiling” has been introduced in Congress.

NCNW (Lady Darlene Hardimon, Chairman & Lady Bobbie Turner, Co-Chairman):
Across the country, TLOD chapters conducted annual membership drives to increase
memberships and strengthen chapters of NCNW Legacy Life Members, Life Members
Guild, Youth Memberships, College Memberships and Annual Memberships of Men and
Women. Chapters collaborated with various organizations and attended their events.
(e.g., the March of Dimes, St. Jude, NAACP, UNCF, Southern Christian Leadership,
100 Black Women, National Action Network, Rite Aide Marathon, American Red Cross,
American Cancer Society (Go Red) Project, National Sickle Cell, National AIDES
Awareness, High Blood Pressure Coalition, and the American Diabetes Association)

SICKLE CELL DISEASE (Lady Teresa Norton, Chairman & Lady Mamie Young, Co-
Chairman): Over the last two years, TLOD chapters invested in advocacy through
setup and breakdown of equipment, preparation of food, tables, and handouts, and
advertising during community walks, health fairs, food, diaper and blood drives. Public
presentations ranging from 35 to nearly 400 community supporters, and participation in
patient monthly and bi-monthly patient support group meetings were also held. TLOD
selected and mentored a Top Teen from each our six geographical Areas to advocate
and serve as Sickle Cell Youth Ambassadors by representing TLOD in the community.
TLOD donated backpack with supplies and food to over 100 Sickle Cell patients.
During the summer months, TLOD chapters chaperoned and traveled with up to 15
Sickle Cell patients for six days at Sickle Cell Camps, where the lives of patients were
enhanced by serving breakfast during holidays while our Top Teens dressed up as
elves and distributed donated gifts. TLOD participated in an initiative funded by
President Obama, called “Ray of Sunshine Campaign”, where we were part of a focus
group that helped facilitate a Network Support System to address the concerns of
patients and families affected by Sickle Cell. Our Top Teens have donated books,
shared literature, and arts, and crafts with younger Sickle Cell patients to enhance
their lives. Additionally, TLOD have supported legislation to increase funding to find a
cure for Sickle Cell. Our activities supported TLOD’s national Sickle Cell Disease
Initiative objectives.
