Grating and Checker Plates





         INSPECTIONS




         General Status


         ASSESS:
         ▪    Signs of excessive wear
         ▪    Signs of corrosion

         ▪    Damage to the finish
         ▪    Deformation

         ▪    Excessive bearing bar lean beyond the tolerances
         ▪    Fractures
         ▪    Missing parts

         ▪    Uncontrolled modification or damage on reparations
         ▪    Load bearing capabilities not available
         ▪    Existence of tripping hazards

         ▪    Free of material accumulation
         ▪    Grating mesh gaps < 20mm (on the short side)


        IMPORTANT:
         ▪   Grating / checker plates that have been inspected and

             deemed in good condition must be marked as “safe for
             use” on the field.  Yearly colour code or informative tag
             must be used. Otherwise, access must be barricaded.


























         Remember:

          • Ensure that the platform / walkway to be inspected is clean and free of accumulated or stored
            material.
          • Defects can be physically marked on the field with color spray or painted and also marked on a
            plan of the zone inspected
