Medical Oncologist Bruno Bastos,

welcomes medical oncologist and clinical researcher Bruno
Bastos, M.D., to its multidisciplinary team of cancer care
specialists. Dr. Bastos specializes in the diagnosis and treat-
ment of genitourinary cancer, which includes the prostate,
bladder, kidney, ureter and urethra. He has expertise in the
use of the most advanced systemic therapies, such as
chemotherapy, hormone therapy and targeted therapy, both Dr. Bruno Bastos
in the adjuvant and metastatic setting.
Dr. Bastos is triple board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in
internal medicine, medical hematology and medical oncology and he earned his med-
ical degree at Universidade Federal da Bahia in Salvador, Brazil. He completed a resi-
dency in internal medicine and a fellowship in hematology/oncology at University of
Miami Miller School of Medicine. He also completed a fellowship in developmental
therapeutics in the medical oncology division at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, which

Hematologist-oncologist and clinical researcher Marco
Ruiz, M.D., MPH, FACP, FIDSA, has joined the Division of
Hematologic Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation at Dr. Marco Ruiz
Miami Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health South Florida
and the state’s only member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Alliance.
Dr. Ruiz earned his medical degree at the University Of San Marcos School Of
Medicine in Lima, Peru. He also earned a Master of Public Health from the Nuffield
Center for International Health & Development, University of Leeds in Sheffield,
United Kingdom. His training also included an internship and residency in internal
medicine at San Juan City Hospital in Puerto Rico. He completed fellowship trainings
in hematology/oncology at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, LA and in bone
marrow transplantation at Ochsner Medical Center, also in New Orleans. Prior to
joining Miami Cancer Institute, Dr. Ruiz was an associate member of the Malignant
Hematology and Cellular Therapy/Bone Marrow Transplantation Program at Moffitt
Cancer Center in Pembroke Pines.
He currently serves as associate professor of clinical medicine at Herbert Wertheim
College of Medicine, Florida International University. Further,

Joins Cleveland Clinic Indian
River Hospital
Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital welcomes infec-
tious disease physician Jorge Requena-Penenori, M.D. Dr.
Requena-Penenori earned his medical degree at the
Instituto Superior de Ciencias Medicas de la Havana in
Havana, Cuba. He completed a family medicine residency at
Comandante Manuel Fajardo Teaching Hospital in Havana, Dr. Requena-Penenori
Cuba and an internal medicine residency at Wyckoff
Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, as well as a fellowship in infectious disease
at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.
Dr. Requena-Penenori traveled the world as a primary care physician for the
Ministry of Public Health of Cuba (MINSAP). In underprivileged Venezuelan commu-
nities, he provided comprehensive medical care and assisted in the prevention and
treatment of diseases. In Cuba, he worked for MINSAP at Enrique Cabrera General
Hospital. He served patients in general wards, intensive care units and outpatient
departments. Dr. Requena-Penenori also traveled to Ecuador and performed preoper-
ative evaluations for patients undergoing ocular surgeries through a humanitarian
project developed for underserved populations. He provided preventative medical
care for individuals and families in the area.
While in Winston-Salem, Dr. Requena-Penenori practiced at W. G. Hefner VA
Medical Center and provided care at several outpatient clinics. An inpatient consult-
ant in Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s general wards and intensive care units, he
also cared for post-transplant and other immunocompromised patients.
