Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023: Indore, Surat

‘cleanest ci es’ in India

Indore and Surat were jointly declared the cleanest cities in
India, receiving the prestigious Swachh Survekshan Awards
presented by President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday.
Saswad in Maharashtra earned the cleanest city award for
urban centers with a population of less than 1 lakh, while
Patan in Chattisgarh and Lonavla in Maharashtra secured
the second and third spots among the cleanest cities in this
category.
This marked the seventh consecutive win for Indore,
reaffirming its position as the cleanest city in India. Navi
Mumbai, which held the third position in last year's awards,
maintained its standing.
For urban centers with less than 1 lakh population, Saswad in Maharashtra was recognized as the cleanest
city, with Patan in Chattisgarh and Lonavla in Maharashtra following as the second and third cleanest cities
in this category. Varanasi and Prayagraj were honored as the cleanest Ganga Towns.
The MHOW Cantonment Board in Madhya Pradesh was acknowledged with the award for the cleanest
cantonment town.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh
Puri, and Secretary Manoj Joshi. Swachh Survekshan, conducted by the Union Ministry of Housing and
Urban Affairs (MoHUA) under the Swachh Bharat Urban Mission since 2016, stands as the world's largest
urban sanitation and cleanliness survey.
