ISRO’s Aditya-L1 successfully placed in a halo orbit
around L1 point
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday that
the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has
successfully achieved its inaugural solar mission, Aditya-L1,
within the anticipated four-month timeframe. Launched on
September 2, the spacecraft has now positioned itself at
Lagrange Point 1, marking a significant milestone in India's
space exploration endeavors.
From its strategic location at Lagrange Point 1, Aditya-L1 is set
to embark on an extensive study of the sun, with a particular
focus on the solar corona and its impact on space weather. Prime Minister Modi commended the
achievement, stating, "India creates yet another landmark. It is a testament to the relentless dedication of
our scientists in realizing one of the most complex and intricate space missions."
Over the course of the four-month journey, the satellite covered approximately 1.5 million kilometers
(930,000 miles), which is just a fraction of the Earth-sun distance of 150 million kilometers. The Lagrange
Point's gravitational forces play a crucial role, allowing objects to remain relatively stationary and reducing
fuel consumption for the spacecraft.
PM Modi Visited Lakshadweep
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared
captivating images from his visit to Lakshadweep,
where he engaged with the locals, embraced the
breathtaking views along the pristine coastline, and
even indulged in snorkeling. Expressing his
admiration, he tweeted, "I am still in awe of the
stunning beauty of its islands and the incredible
warmth of its people," accompanied by several
pictures that quickly gained viral attention.
Lakshadweep was a key destination in Prime Minister
Modi's extensive two-day tour of the southern regions,
with Tamil Nadu and Kerala being the other two notable stops. This tour, strategically scheduled ahead of
the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, included the inauguration and foundation stone laying for various
developmental projects in Lakshadweep, collectively valued at over Rs 1,150 crore.
