emotions. We tend to want to avoid our emotions because we live in a society and a
world that devalues the messages that emotions tell us.
Personally, I think this is a great mistake and it is a huge downfall of modern-day
society and cultural attitudes towards how to manage your life. The reason why I say
that is because when we avoid our emotions, we risk our emotions taking over our
lives and derailing all of our experiences in life. When you do not have control over
your emotions or healthy emotional management or a healthy relationship with your
emotions you tend to drink too much when you're trying to avoid your emotions. You
tend to party a little bit too hard from time to time. The truth is if you do not have
control of your emotions your emotions are going to have control of you.
Your emotions will lead you to practice risky behaviours like therapy shopping too
much on the weekend, or eating too much until you get really overweight and
depressed, or gambling away all your money, maybe even your life savings.
Life is happening to you; you are not creating life when your emotions control you.
When you are not in control of your emotions and you're not listening to them and
you're not giving them space and you're not respecting them and honouring them
then they will hoodwink you and take over your life.
There is just no other way around it.
Your emotions need to be given space. They need to be heard, they need to be held,
they need to be valued and respected and loved and acknowledged.
