Part 2: KIRK SESSION & MINISTRY REPORTS
KIRK SESSION
It is with great thanksgiving that we celebrate the end of another year of our congregation’s life. We’ve made a
lot of progress over the last few years in renewing our building and putting a team in place to position Trinity
for continued vitality and growth. Here are some of the important steps we took in the past year.
• We added two new part-time positions to provide stronger support for families and young people:
o Antoinette Matthee became our Coordinator of Children and Family Ministries, and;
o Michael Gomiega became our Coordinator of Youth and Young Adults, in addition to his current
part-time role as our Music Director. Michael is now a full-time employee of Trinity.
• We made some important one-time investments in musical instruments, equipment and the exterior
of our building. We set a fundraising target of $73,000 as part of a special Trinity Tune-up campaign
to fund these projects. Our congregation responded generously and we were able to raise an
incredible $79,752. By year-end we were able to complete five of the projects including: the purchase
of new musical instruments for our band; installing a new audio system in our sanctuary; painting
our cross and some exterior walls; putting up new Welcome signs; and purchasing a new floor
polisher to keep our building in good shape. Work is continuing on three remaining projects
including: a new electronic sign at the corner of Bayview and Truman; a new music centre; and new
chancel furniture. All projects are expected to be completed in early 2020.
• We had a successful congregational retreat in April, led by the Rev. Susan Ingram-Kerr and Company
of Saints from Knox Presbyterian Church in Waterdown, Ontario.
• We affirmed our position that Trinity is an inclusive faith community. A statement on inclusion has
been posted in our building and on our website. This was supported by rainbow flag stickers at our
main entrances and other prominent locations within our building. Our statement on inclusion reads:
At Trinity, we are proud to be an inclusive, affirming faith community. We are richer because we
include people of all ages, gender identities, racial and cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations,
abilities, economic circumstances and family configurations. At Trinity, all are welcome!
• To help finance Trinity’s programs, we made significant progress at increasing our rental income in
2019. We are currently looking for new tenants for our Founders Hall, West Hall and North Hall who
can provide additional rental income for the future. We would appreciate help from anyone in our
congregation who may know about potential tenants for our building.
