CBSE READING CHALLENGE
elhi Public School, Jammu conducted CBSE Reading Challenge on 30 November, 2022 in
the school premises. It was a unique challenge developed by the Central Board of Secondary
DEducation both in English as well as Hindi. Students of classes VI-X participated in this unique
reading literacy programme. The challenge was conducted for two different levels; one for classes VI-
VII and the other for classes VIII-X. The motto of this reading challenge was to engage participants
with various stimulants and focus on the ability to read with comprehension and accuracy and to enable
them to construct meaning by retrieving information, relating text with their previous knowledge and
integrating data.
A total of 540 students participated in this challenge. The school registered students for the first
stage. Later on, the reading challenge was conducted in the school premises , wherein the students were
given papers which consisted of 30 assessment items which the students has to complete in 45 minutes.
Reading Challenge assessment criteria included both speed and accuracy. Students who finished the task
between 30 -35 minutes were marked 3 Stars, those who finished the task between 35 -40 minutes were
marked 2 Stars and between 40 -45 minutes were marked 1 star. In case there were more students getting
the same marks, the students who got the score in less time got preference for selection i.e. those with
three stars got priority over the those who got two stars or one star.
It is well accepted that Reading Literacy is not only a foundation for achievement in other subject
areas within the educational system but also a prerequisite for successful participation in most areas of
adult life. With a focus on promoting Reading Literacy among the learners, Delhi Public School, Jammu
alongwith the Central Board of Secondary Education successfully completed first round of The CBSE
Reading Challenge.
