Devotion

           3

“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members
of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the
message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and
admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns,
and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your
hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all
in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father

                 through him” (Colossians 3:15-17).

Some relationships are anything but healthy when it comes to grow-
        ing as a disciple.
There are the obvious ones. If you’re a compulsive gambler, you’ll
want to steer clear of your bookie. If opioids are your drug of choice, get
help and delete your dealer’s number from your phone.
As a Jesus-follower, you have to take a hard look at any relationship

that undermines your faith. At dating relationships that are anything but
holy. At anything—and anyone—that erodes your ability to follow Jesus.
Are there destructive relationships choking out your bandwidth to
engage with healthier ones? That get in the way of fellowship?
If so, for at least a season, it may be important that you step away
        from them.
It’s a hard decision—but not one you have to make alone. Ask Jesus

if your call to following him is also a call away from not just certain activi-
        ties, but specific people.
             Ask…and then listen…and then act.
This is a game-changing prayer for anyone following Jesus, so don’t
        worry about journaling here.
Simply pray—and then wait on the Lord for a response in the coming
few days. See what he has to say.
