“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above
yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual
fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction,

faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need.
Practice hospitality” (Romans 12:9-13).

What’s your history with church?
Maybe you were raised attending church. Maybe you never saw the
inside of a church building except for weddings and funerals.
Perhaps you’ve been hurt by the church. Or helped. Or both.

Fellowship is more than just hanging out with people. It’s hang-
ing out with people—and Jesus. It’s being in relationship with
other disciples who are also intent on following Jesus and who
are determined to love one another.
Read these passages that talk about qualities of authentic fellow-
ship. Is there any faith community where all of what follows is lived out

perfectly? No—but you can tell when there’s a community that’s pressing
into letting Jesus shape them this direction:
