wounds hurt too much. The phoenix brought his
head close to the wounds and tears fell from his eyes.
The wounds disappeared, and James got up full of
energy and joy. He turned to Kate and in their relief
at having escaped the monster, they kissed.
They had decided they would stay in that cave until
the next day. During the night they couldn't sleep
because of Thomas' roaring in the forest, he was
looking for them. As the sun began to rise Kate asked
James in a trembling voice,
“James, what happens if we can hold out until the
sun is fully up?”
“I think we'll finally be rid of the monster” James
replied more and more reassured.
“But that's only if I hadn't found you”, said a deep,
cold voice.
James was paralyzed by surprise and fear, it was
over, the monster was stronger than they were, they
couldn't escape him. At that moment, a song
resounded, a beautiful song, James felt his courage
returning, with the phoenix they were safe. James
looked at Thomas, and saw that he was terrified, so
he jumped on him and pushed him out of the cave
