ICC recognizes that teachers may need to use School equipment and/or communications from time
to time for personal use. In general, this is allowed, provided such use:
a. Is limited in duration or extent;
b. Does not adversely affect their attention to or completion of their job responsibilities;
c. Does not result in any significant incremental cost to the company.
4.5 WORKPLACE PRIVACY
Faculty members do not have a right to privacy in their work spaces or in any other property
belonging to the school. The school reserves the right to search school property at any time, without
warning, to ensure compliance with our policies on personnel safety, workplace violence, harassment,
theft, drug and alcohol use and possession of prohibited items. School property includes, but is not
limited to, lockers, desks, file cabinets, storage areas, and workplaces. If a faculty members uses a lock on
any item of school property (a locker or file cabinet, for example), a copy of the key or combination must
be submitted to the Property Custodian Office.
4.6 COMPUTERS, EMAIL AND INTERNET
The School provides some personnel with computer equipment, including an internet connection and
access to an electronic communications system, to enable them to perform their jobs successfully. The
policy governs teachers’ use of the School’s computer, internet and email system.
4.7 EMAIL RULES
All of the policies and rules of conduct apply to personnel’s use of the email system. This means,
for example, that employee may not use the email system to send harassing or discriminatory messages,
including messages with explicit sexual content or pornographic images, to send threatening messages;
to solicit from others to purchase items for non-School purposes.
Faculty members are expected to exercise discretion in using electronic communications
equipment. Teachers and/or any employee represent the School when sending e-mails using the School’s
communications equipment. Make sure that your messages are professional and appropriate, in tone and
content. Remember, although e-mail may seem like a private conversation, it can be printed, saved and
forwarded to unintended recipients.
4.8 DELETING EMAILS
Because of the large volume of emails that the School sends and receives, personnel are discouraged
from storing large numbers of email messages. Please make a regular practice of deleting emails once
you have read and/or responded to them. If there is a need to save a particular e-mail, have it saved in
your personal USB disk. The School will purge mail messages that have not been archived after 3 months.
4.9 USING THE INTERNET
Personnel may not, at any time, access the internet using School equipment for any of the following
purposes:
a) To visit website that features pornographic, gambling, or violent images or are otherwise
inappropriate in the workplace.
