son of a poor man is some kind of special talent. He starts wishing: If
I were the son of an autorickshaw driver, it would have been easier
for me to clear this exam. He starts romanticizing the struggle of
poverty. He starts believing that it is easier to crack the exam and
become a ‘heartwarming’, ‘beautiful’, and even an ‘inspiring’ story
when one comes from a poor background.
But remember, he became an IAS officer because of his hard work,
and not because of the fact that he was born to an auto rickshaw
driver. There are a lot of such poor people who have not succeeded
in their attempts.
Whenever we listen to such news we start thinking that if a student
from a middle class or prosperous family clears the examinations he
is not worthy of any praise or respect. He has to be poor, disabled or
underprivileged for the news to sell.
I agree that the road becomes even more difficult when you do not
have basic facilities, but you should also think about a boy from an
affluent family who achieves something great in his life because of
his own efforts. Think: how did he motivate himself? — Is he really
not worthy of praise? Working so hard to achieve success was not
even mandatory for him. He already had everything. But nobody
wants to know about the efforts he made. All of us have our own
difficulties and challenges, and we have to deal with them in our own
way. Nobody knows or understands us better than us, and only we
have to think what is right for us.
Many a time you may also think that the road and the journey is
easier for the rich and someone who is poor has to suffer a lot. The
rich kids have all the resources, all kinds of coaching materials while
the poor student has nothing. You are disheartened because you
cannot enroll in expensive coaching classes where all the toppers go
and give their interviews after clearing the exam. If you are under
such an impression that the coaching institute is responsible for the
candidate’s success, let me tell you, a lot of coaching centres pay
