Chapter 12
Become Meritorious

One of the major drawbacks in several people, especially students,
is- they start following and imitating someone very soon.
If you are interested in becoming a follower then how are you going
to become a leader, how are you going to discover the leadership
qualities within you? Whenever the exam results are out, a lot of
students are more interested to know who has got the first rank, who
has emerged as the topper? It is true that the student who has
cleared the exam with the highest score deserves appraisal. But we
must also understand that there is a lot that we can learn from his
experience.
We tend to waste a lot of our time in talking about those students
who are good in studies and score well in examinations. Either we
talk about them with our friends, or on the social media, and we want
to know everything about them. We want them to be our friends, to
guide us and show us the right directions. We start believing that
they have some extraordinary, magical powers that helps them to
excel in their studies.
Let me ask you a question.
Do the students who top the examinations suddenly become more
intelligent, or is it their intelligence which helps them to top the
exams? It is not an easy question. There is no doubt about the fact
that the top ranker has all the skills, he has done the right amount of
hard work and that helped him to give wings to his dreams and come
out with flying colors. But it is also true that if we start looking at
meritorious students as someone with some kind of superpowers or
hidden skills which helped them to get ahead of everyone else; if we
start believing that they have cleared a tough exam because they
have some divine powers or they belong to a different planet then we
can never compete with them. Such thoughts drag us down and we
