per cent. Then why does a student fail in this moderate question
papers? The student fails because he did not do his revision
properly. When he looks at the question he remembers seeing it
somewhere, but he is not sure about it, and in the absence of clarity
of thoughts and surety he starts writing wrong answers. A student
fails in an examination not because he could not answer the tough
questions, but because he did not perform well in the average-level
questions. He made mistakes in those questions in which any
aspirant could not have gone wrong. What drags him down is his
lack of revision.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to revise.
Think about applying hair oil on your scalp. If you apply the oil only at
the top of the head, will it work? No. The oil has to reach your scalp
to give you the best results. Studying a topic for the first time is like
applying hair on the top of your head. When you pick up a book and
read it for the first time, it is impossible to retain it all. You have to
read and revise it multiple times to memorize it. The hair oil reaches
the root of the hair only when you massage it properly. Revision is
the key to reach at the core level of understanding a topic and
retaining it.
But how to revise successfully before exams? If you start reading
your books cover to cover when your exams are knocking at the
door, there is no way in which you can cover it all. So, what are your
options? Highlight the important points in your books, use sticky
notes, make use of mind maps, flowcharts, tables and easy to
remember diagrams, recall whatever you read in the day before
sleep, make crisp notes and try writing in short bullet points, engage
in question answer sessions with your friends and if there is
someone who needs your help regarding any topic or subject, do
explain it to them. “If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand
it well enough”- Albert Einstein.
Today you have the opportunity to study. God has not given such an
opportunity to everyone. There are crores of people who only dream
