In the early 20 century, prior to 1914, most of the medical world
centered around naturopathic medicine, homeopathy, chiropractic, and
osteopathic care. In 1910, Abraham Flexner, who at the time was a

politician and the US Science

Administrator, felt the future of
medicine was not in natural

elements but rather in synthetic

pathology. As a result, with big
money and influence behind him,

he instituted a nationwide

closing down of 80% of all
medical schools, chiropractic

colleges, homoeopathic colleges,
and some psychiatric institutions in the USA. Of course, I understand

what his intentions were, as some of these clinics lacked a standard of

care or a validation of efficacy, and some of the practitioners had
minimal medical training. Rightfully so, he wanted a standardized

education for all medical practitioners and his actions would thereby
create this standard of care in the entire country. As much as this

makes sense, it was now an opportunity for corruption to creep in and

make matters even worse than they were.
