Disability Insurance
If you have a serious injury or illness that keeps you from working, how will you cover your
monthly expenses? Disability insurance (paid by DPR) replaces a portion of your income
when you are unable to work due to a qualified illness or non-work-related injury.
Short-Term Disability (STD)
All Full-Time Salaried (union and non-union) DPR employees that have completed 6 months
of continuous employment are eligible for 6 weeks of Short-Term Disability for an approved disability. For employees residing
in states that offer state-funded disability programs, you are required to apply for the state disability benefits. The DPR STD
payments will be offset by the state disability pay.
Long-Term Disability (LTD)
Long-Term Disability provides a portion of your income replaced if you can’t work for an extended period of time due to a non
work-related illness or injury. This coverage is coordinated with other benefits you may receive while disabled, such as Social
Security. Long-Term Disability payments will last for as long as you are disabled or until you reach your Social Security Normal
Retirement Age, whichever comes first. Certain exclusions and pre-existing condition limitations may apply.
Long-Term Disability is provided by Symetra at no cost to you.
COVERAGE BENEFIT
Long-Term Disability • 60% of your monthly earnings up to $18,000 maximum.
• Benefits begin after a 90 day elimination period and benefits are available as long as you are disabled or
reach the maximum benefit duration.
