Musical Christmas spirit
The Reedley Christmas Band brought the spirit of the season to downtown Reedley on Dec. 18. The band performed an hour-long concert in front of the entrance to the Mainstreet Cafe on G Street, performing a number of traditional Christ- mas songs and carols. Pictured in the above photo clockwise from left are Randy Morris, tenor sax; Toni Lopez, alto sax; Gary Barsoom, percussion; Rodger Lopez, trumpet; John Heathcote, trumpet; Eric Kangas, trumpet; and Mario Tor- res, tuba. Just one week after the Sanger Police Department conducted a DUI and license checkpoint that netted two arrests and multiple citations, a second saturation joint effort a resulted in several cita- tions and two arrests for driving under the influence.
On Dec. 27, Sanger police — with the assistance of Parlier, Reedley, Selma and Kingsburg police — conducted a
citywide DUI saturation that resulted in 90 vehicle stops.
Of those stops, officers were able to cite six drivers for driving without a valid driver’s license and two for driving with a suspended license. In addition, of- ficers arrested two subjects for driving under the influence.
Nine vehicles were towed during the operation and four additional citations were issued for a total of 13 traffic ci- tations.
Drivers caught driving while im- paired can expect jail time, license sus- pension, insurance increases as well as fines. DUI classes and other expenses can exceed $10,000.
The Sanger Police Department reminds those who chose to drink to do so responsi- bly. Designate a driver or make arrange- ments for someone to get you home.
Said Sanger Police Sgt. Joshua John- son, “For your safety and the safety of others, please don’t drink and drive.”

When the Reedley branch li- brary makes its eventual move into a new building, longtime librarian Kathy Sullivan will proudly watch the process as an outside observer.
Sullivan, who's worked for the Fresno County Public Li- brary system for 30 years with 25 of them at Reedley, formally retired effective the end of the year. She was honored by co- workers past and present and Friends of the Library at an af- ternoon reception on Dec. 27.
Sullivan moved into the librar-
ian position in 1995, when former librarian Shirley Jennings retired after 27 years in Reedley. She's been a fixture at the Reedley branch since that time.
"I actually started here in [1989] as extra help, then I was hired [by the county library] in July 1990, and was at the old Sunnyside library [in Fresno]," Sullivan said. After two-plus years there, she worked another 2 1/2 years at the Clovis library before coming to Reedley.
All this time, she worked at the library's present building on E Street. Working with the
