Configuring a Monitor
7.6. PD Technology Settings
PD monitoring technologies come in multiple varieties on multiple monitors. Some of
the configuration is common to all PD technologies, and some is unique to specific monitors.
7.6.1. PD Input Configuration
PD input configuration is common to all PD monitoring systems and use a similar
process regardless of the type of PD monitor. Press the ‘Partial Discharge’ button on the
ribbon. The workspace will be split up into two main sections, where the selected input is
shown on the left and settings for the input are changed on the right. Some of these settings
were determined when the PD Sensors were added (refer to Section 5.3.4) and will be
automatically populated, although changes can be made here if desired.
• Select the sensitivity for the User Range. To determine the appropriate sensitivity,
use the single-shot measurement buttons (described below).
• For BUS PD systems, enter the bus Delay. This will be automatically set to match
the delay that was input during sensor setup.
• Set the Sync Source. This will be automatically set to match the source that was
input during sensor setup.
• Set the Phase Adjustment. This will be automatically set to match the reference
angle that was input during sensor setup.
• For HydroTracII and BusTracII, set the Alert threshold. Press the ‘Set Defaults’
button to automatically select an Alert threshold based on the asset ratings.
Note:
Default PD Alert thresholds are based on a statistical analysis of PD
activity in similar assets. In some cases, the combination of asset
parameters may not have enough statistical data to recommend
default PD alert thresholds.
