When he fell, the only one who may have seen a
bright side to his fall was perhaps, the “King of Pop”
Michael Jackson. Mr. Simpson’s troubles took the world’s
critical spotlight off of Michael Jackson who was being
widely criticized at that time, for his largely known
interaction with young boys. Michael may have also
learned that great heights can result in hard falls.
Some of America’s biggest names of televangelists
joined the list of fallen personalities. The team of Jim
and Tammie Faye Bakker was one of the greatest success
stories in all of televangelism. Their powerful PTL Club
TV show was seen around the world.
The Bakkers were where others aspire to be even
now, but like secular celebrities they fell hard at the
result of their alleged business practices and Jim’s alleged
indiscretions. They fell harder than a fallen star from the
galaxies. Jim went to prison.
Although the evidence was not particularly strong,
Jim Bakker was convicted in 1989 and sentenced to 45
years in prison. The sentence was later reduced to eight
years, and he was released in 1994.
So, after eight (8) years and at least one (1) nervous-
breakdown, Bakker was released from The Federal
Bureau of Prisons custody on December 1, 1994 owing
the Internal Revenue Service $6 million.
In 1992, Tammie Faye divorced Jim Bakker while he
was still behind bars. She remarried one (1) year later. On
July 20, 2007 Tammie Faye Messner died of lung cancer
at age 65.
Other religious leaders topping the list of alleged
fallen soldiers, include Jimmy Swaggert and Robert
