                                                                                                   Level III Phase 2
               This  collection  development  policy  will  be  reviewed  every  three  years  in
               cooperation with the Library Committee to ensure that it continues to support
               the mission of JHCSC, the content of the library’s collection, the organizational

               structure of the library, the range of library materials actually being acquired,
               technological changes affecting library collection and services, and the goals
               of the library.

               II.     SELECTION/ACQUISITION


                       A. RESPONSIBILITY

                       The  college  librarian  assumes  final  responsibility  for  the  selection  of
               materials. Materials shall be chosen by the librarian in collaboration with the
               faculty, staff and students composing the Library Committee.

                       Thus, the ultimate responsibility in keeping with the library’s direction
               in collection development rest on the library administration in general.


                       Increasingly, the library is moving towards electronic access to full text
               database  &  journals,  where  available,  and  subject  to  availability  of  funds.
               Internet resources that are available free of charge are selected by designated
               library staff.

                       B. PROCEDURE IN THE SELECTION/ACQUISITION OF LIBRARY
                          MATERIALS
                   1.  The college librarian asks for current book reviews, examines current

                       publisher’s catalog and review listings of books supplies.
                   2.  The pricelist/catalogs are sent to different departments for selection of
                       titles. These catalogs are checklist of books are examined and are sent
                       to different academic department for checking.
                   3.  The faculty checks the book title that he/she finds useful in teaching the
                       subject assigned to him/her.
                   4.  The final lists prioritizing the needs of each department are complied.
                   5.  The titles requested are checked against the holdings of the library to
                       avoid duplication.
                   6.  If the material requested is an exact duplicate in terms of content and
                       edition, the unit head will now to decide whether to procure or not the

                       material has to be requested.
                   7.  After the  suggested  titles  are  reviewed  and  evaluated  by  the  college
                       librarian, the compiled list will be submitted to the President for approval
                       and  provide  a  copy  of  the  approved  purchase  request  to  the  Supply
                       Officer for acquisition.
                   8.  In requesting materials for purchase, the following information must be
                       provided.
                              a.  Title
                              b.  Author

                              c.  Publication/Copyright date
