           The Salmon


           of Knowledge




           “The Salmon of Knowledge”  would be the most well known Irish fairytale that
           links to food.  It is the story of how Fionn  Mac Cumhail became one of the
           greatest  heroes of Celtic mythology. When he was a boy he acquired unlimited
           knowledge, by accident, from a salmon which he was sent to catch by a local
           poet. When Fionn grew up he became a great warrior, a wise poet and the lead-
           er of the Fianna who were the most heroic warriors in the history of Ireland.




           The Meal of

           the Clergyman




           “The meal of the clergyman” is an Irish fairy tale recorded by the Grimm
           Brothers. The fairy tale mentions a dish with potatoes and salmon. The
           two brothers very often found in their tales meals, which are very simple.




           The Three

           Little Chickens




           Ernst Tegethoff wrote French fairy tales like “The Three Little Chickens” or
           “The Booty Cat”. The first fairy tale is based on the “Three Little Pigs”. It is
           about three chickens fleeing from home and building a hut to survive.  At
           night a big wolf appears and wants to eat the chicken.
