The buffer action of basic buffer:
Upon addition of a strong acid: Strong acid is converted to
a weakly dissociated water and pH practically does not change.
H+ + NH4OH NH4+ + H2O
Upon addition of a strong base: Strong base is converted to
a weakly dissociated base and pH practically does not change.
OH- + NH4Cl NH4OH + Cl-
