Potency is determined by comparing the neutralizing
power

With that of an accepted standard antitoxin to which an
arbitrary potency in units has been assigned.
L + ( Limes Tod or death limit dose) is the smallest dose of
toxin,which when mixed with 1.0 unit of antitoxin, is
sufficient
to cause the death of guinea pig .
L +/10 dose ,Lr ( Limes Reaktion ) used at the Lr/1000
Vaccines

Some products should never be made on the same building
Since accidental contamination -----serious consequences.
e.g.tetanus vaccine (given parenterally) made in separate
area ,infectious vaccine given giving orally (poliomyelitis
vaccine).
Sterilization of building with formalin or ethylene oxide,
washed down and production of second vaccine .
Bacterial vaccines and toxoids
The only successes are 2 toxoids ( diphtheria & tetanus)
Pertussis (killed bact. Vaccine)& BCG (living bact. Vaccine
).
