Mumps
Acute infectious generalized virus disease caused by
mumps virus . ϒ-globulin prepared from convalescent
serum given in 20ml doses within 24 hrs after the
onset of illness has reached the incidence of orchitis
7.7 % as compared with 27.4% in control. Alive
attenuated vaccine has been grown in chick cell tissue
(& results are encouraging).Only a rearily effectiveness
&lasting immunity to mumps would justify the use of a
mumps vaccine in children since a transient or partial
immunity would leave them susceptible to the disease
after puberty when complications such as orchitis
would be harmful.
Trachoma
It is a chronic contagious viral conjunctivitis & is the
greatest single cause of progressive loss of sight in the
world . The cause is related to genus Bedsonia
vaccines prepared in the yolk sacs of chick embryo
Killed vaccines have been used ,live vaccines may be
more effective.
Balance of risk
No vaccination or form of the serum therapy is free
from all risk ,the acceptability of protection against a
disease or assessment of the balance of the risk
against the benefits except from it must be based on
