longer than 2 or 3 weeks a further dose should be given

after each contact.Aministration of ϒ- globulin is
unnecessary after the first 3 months of pregnancy as
rubella rarely infects the fetus in the later month .

In 1966 ,Meyer et al in America announced the
successful attenuation of the rubella virus after77
passages in African green monkey cell culture (HPV77
strain). The attenuated virus is given to children in a
nursery with some uninoculated children but in none of
the controls.Although the virus could be isolated from
some of the inoculated children all specimens from the
control children were negative.

Vaccines now are available prepared from any of three
strains:

1-The HPV77 further attenuated in either duck embryo
of fibroblast cells,or dog kidney cells.

2-The Candehill strain isolated in monkey kidney tissue
& attenuated in rabbit kidney cells.

3-RA27/3 strain isolated & attenuated in human diploid
embryonic lung fibroblast cell cultures.
All vaccines give antibody response in children&hope
protection against the disease will last many years
