Monotrpene Hydrocarbons:
1- Acyclic monoterpene hydrocarbons:
Acyclic monoterpenes are all liquids at room temperature.
Myrcene
Source: oil of hops, bay (Laurus nobilis)
(وراقﻟﻐﺎر )اﻟﻠ ا
Uses:
- The tendency of myrcene to polymerize has been used to some extent
industrially in the preparation of rubber-like polymers and co-polymers.
- It has a pleasant odor, but is rarely used in the perfumery industry, as it
is unstable in air and tending to polymerize.
- Myrcene has an analgesic effect.
Ocimene
Source: (Basil)
oil of Ocimum basilicum. ﻟاﯾرﺣﺎن
Uses:
- Perfume industries.
- Flavoring agent in pharmaceutical products, shampoo, toothpaste
soaps, cosmetics.
2- Monocyclic monoterpene hydrocarbons:
Monocyclic monoterpenes is subdivided into:
(1) p-menthane. (the larger group)
(2) m-menthane. p-menthane m-menthane
Both skeletons may be formed by the union of two isoprene residues.
