It is an example of bicylic monoterpene hydrocarbon,
Class II: (6 + 4 membered ring).

Source:
Very widely distributed in nature, being found in most volatile oils of the
Coniferae. It is the main constituent of turpentine oil.

Uses:
α-pinene is used as starting material for different synthetically prepared
compounds:
- Borneol and camphor.
- α- terpineol.
