Lesson 14: What is a Gurdwara?

Gurdwara is a place, where Sikhs come on Sundays and other

days. They come to Gurdwara to see and listen to the words

in Guru Granth Sahib Ji. When they sit inside the Gurdwara

and they listen to Guru Ji’s teachings, they are called

Sangat. Even you are part of the Sangat when you sit inside

           the Gurdwara.

Gurdwara means a place of worship for the Sikhs. Gurdwara

means a ‘door to the Guru’. Guru Granth Sahib Ji is always

           present in a Gurdwara.

Gurdwaras are open to everyone from very early in the

morning to late at night. Many people work in a Gurdwara.

Some sing, some cook, some clean and some decorate it.
