Lesson 7: Parikarma
When we go to the Gurdwara , there are many things we do to show respect
and love for Guru Granth Sahib Ji. We walk slowly towards Guru Granth
Sahib Ji. Then we stand in front of Guru Sahib and do a personal Ardas.
Our Ardas should always include a request for gift of Naam, Gursikhi,
education and Bibek Budh. Gursikhi means living life as prescribed by Guru
Ji. “Bibek Budh” means having wisdom to differentiate between good and
bad. Here are a few words you can say for Ardas.
“vwihgurU jI, mYnUM nwm dI dwq, guris~KI dI dwq, Aqy iv~idAw dI dwq bKSo[”
(Waheguru Ji, please bless me with the gift of Naam, Gursikhi, and education).
Then we place our offering of money in the Golak. We bow down to do Matha
Teko. After Matha Teko, we stand up and do Parikarma- the act of walking
around Guru Granth Sahib Ji in a clockwise direction, keeping Guru Granth
Sahib Ji on our right hand side. Then, we come to the front again to Matha
Teko once more before taking Parshaad. Then we sit down in the Sangat.
Parikarma is walking around Guru Ji. You see when we walk around something,
