Arshinderpal Kaur Group 3 Judge
Arshinder Pal Kaur was born and raised in Punjab where
she completed her Master of Arts and Master of
Philosophy in Punjabi from Punjabi University Patiala. She
moved to Singapore in 1991 and became an accredited
Punjabi teacher for the national level Singapore Sikh
Education Foundation.
Arshinder then moved to California in 1998 and became
involved at the Guru Nanak Khalsa School as a teacher.
She has continued to volunteer there and contributes to
the Sikh community through student instruction,
administrative work, coaching students for Gurbani and Sri
Hemkunt speech competitions, and preparing GNKS
students for the Guru Charni Lagna ceremony. She has
been performing judging seva for Center to International
levels of Sri Hemkunt symposium.
She started teaching Punjabi at the university level,
initially at San Jose State University and then at UC Santa
Cruz, where she has worked since 2012. Starting with one beginner level Punjabi language class,
Arshinder has helped develop the program into a comprehensive full year 3-class curriculum.
In 2021, she was an integral part of a team from UCSC (in collaboration with other UCs) that built the
online “Punjabi Without Walls” program taught in the UC system. Recently she has started teaching at
UC Davis. She has immense passion for her language and culture, and she tries to instill the same zeal
for Punjabi in her GNKS and university students.
