Week Five:
                              Stone Stacking

This activity is one of the kids’ favorites! Stone
stacking is an activity and a rite that was used by
many in the past, more specifically as a form of nature
art. Anyone that has walked through forests through-
out the world may or may not have seen these, but
stacked-stone statues are incredible and quite impres-
sive as they require an immense amount of patience.

These stacked stones are a great way for your kids
to interact with nature while also working with shapes,
learning about mass and gravity. Although this may
not be the best activity with younger kids, children
that have enough dexterity and focus to work on
creating such stacks can greatly benefit from working
with stones. For younger kids, try working with flatter
stones. For older kids, work with them to explain how
gravity works and how balancing out stones requires
concentration. In terms of the areas of learning, this
activity is a great one to incite your kids to learn more
about shapes (mathematics) while also gaining a bet-
              ter understanding of the world.
