Next-generation blue-blood is trying to forge
an independent reputation within the maritime
ranks

WITH his famous surname and
impeccable shipping pedigree,
John Michael Radziwill is a next-
generation blue-blood trying to forge
an independent reputation within the
maritime ranks.
The chief executive of Monaco-
based bulk carrier owner and
operator CTM is the cousin of Greek
shipping magnate Peter Livanos,
owner of Ceres Hellenic Shipping,
while his maternal grandfather was
John M Carras.
Known for his love of fast cars
and the Monaco lifestyle, Mr Radziwill
is nonetheless settling down to
manage the company fleet of about 90
capesize and supramax vessels during
a brutal downturn.
With up to 30 of the biggest bulk
ships under his management, he’s
now participating in a bold move to
help consolidate that segment.
CTM is one of five companies
launching a common chartering
platform for the bulk carrier segment,
Capesize Chartering. The initiative
attracted headlines for its flexibility
and revenue-sharing philosophy but
doesn’t extend as far as the traditional

pooling arrangements more
commonly seen in the tanker sector.
The arrangement with long-time
collaborators brings together Bocimar,
Golden Ocean, Golden Union and Star
Bulk, and started in February as the
Baltic Dry Index hit 30-year lows.
Mr Radziwill’s destiny was, in a way, a very private, family-run company
pre-ordained; since childhood, he was
exposed to the family business, with
an apprenticeship that saw him spend
time as deck-hand, and join in with the
shipbroker lads during a stint at Clarkson father, Eyal Ofer, Daniel and David
in London, before settling down to work
as a freight trader, and then make first
vessel purchases for the business.
In 2010, he was deemed as ready
to take a more prominent role and
appointed chief executive. Now aged 35,
Mr Radziwill also serves as an advisor
of SCP Clover Maritime, a company that
manages assets and investments for the
Radziwill family, and has been a director
of Euronav since 2013.
All operations are centralised in
the Monaco office, where 70 staff are
employed. The company is also active
in offshore dry bulk logistics, in a joint bringing with him a fleet of crude and
venture with Swire’s China Navigation
Company.

Daniel and David Ofer
DANIEL and David Ofer are the third
generation of the Ofer family to manage
Zodiac Maritime, the London-based
global shipping enterprise that was the
core of the maritime business founded
by Sammy Ofer.
With its origins stretching back to
the mid-1970s, Zodiac today remains
controlling a large fleet of more than
130 vessels.
Under the chairmanship of their
both take a hands-on approach to the
management of Zodiac and the company
is flourishing as a result.
Daniel runs Zodiac’s dry fleet of
approximately 90 vessels across the
bulk, container and PCTC fleet, and
has been managing director of Zodiac
since 2011.
His younger brother David runs the
tanker division of the business, called
Zodiac Tankers — a fleet of close to 40
vessels consisting of crude, product
and chemical tankers. David recently
relocated to the UK from Singapore,
product tankers.
Both Daniel and David began their
careers working on ships as teenagers
and climbed their way up the ladder,
