Electronic Documents (eDocs)
An electronic document management system. It is an “electronic filing cabinet” which has
built in workflows for review/approval of documents. It is web-based and is log-in password
controlled and is 21CFR Part 11 compliant.
Emerging Markets (EM)
A nation with business activity in the process of rapid growth.
Employee Activities Committee (EAC)
Group at Biogen that provides employees, contractors, temps and interns with opportunities
to meet and become acquainted with others at activities like professional sports games,
concerts, and charitable causes.
Employee Relations (ER)
Department intended to help employees deal with personal problems that might adversely
impact their job performance, health, and well-being
Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP)
A tax-efficient means by which employees of a corporation can purchase the
corporation's stock, often at a discount. For example, the discount might be 10% off on the
stock's fair value market price at a certain date as determined by the plan.
Entered Currency
Transacted currency; is the currency selected when entering a transaction, this may be
different than the functional currency.
Enterprise Value
The value of a firm’s operations, before adjusting for financing structure. The market value
of an enterprise is calculated as Market Capitalization plus Debt minus Excess Cash. The
intrinsic value of an enterprise is the discounted value of cash generated from operations.
Entity Dimension
The Entity Dimension represents the combination of legal entity and geography code that is
used to facilitate both legal entity and regional reporting.
