Glossary 56

A procedure or set of procedures intended to ensure that a manufactured product or
performed service adheres to a defined set of quality criteria or meets the requirements of
the patient.

Quarter End Forecast (QEF)

High level reforecast of the Annual Operating Plan performed on the last month of the
quarter.

Quarter-to-Date (QTD)

A time interval that captures all relevant company activity that occurred between the
beginning of the current quarter and the time in which the data was gathered.

Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT)

A type of experiment where the people being studied are randomly allocated one of the
different treatments under the story. This is the standard for clinical trials.

Recombinant DNA (rDNA)

DNA extracted from two or more cells combined into a single slice of DNA

Red Blood Cells (RBC)

Cells that deliver oxygen to the body tissue.

Regional Director (RD)

Field Sales manager overseeing Area Business Managers (ABM) in respective region.

Regulation Fair Disclosure (RFD)

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC's) Regulation Fair Disclosure, also
commonly referred to as Regulation FD or Reg FD, mandated that all publicly traded
companies must disclose material information to all investors at the same time.

Regulatory Affairs (RA)

Function that ensures that Biogen complies with all of the regulations and laws pertaining to
the business.
