Case #2:

                                                    The OODA Loop

                                                      Case #2:

The OODA Loop - Applied to Defensive Shooting

                     • In circumstances other than at contact distance if an officer is delivering lethal force / live fire at a controlled
cadence faster than .35-.50 he / she runs the risk of shooting faster than he /she can process the unfolding
                      environment.
                     • A .35-.50 cadence or 2-3 shots per second sounds fast, however top professional competition shooters can
deliver 6-7 shots per second at 7 yards with 100% accuracy and the world record is 8 shots in 1 second.
                     • Top law enforcement and/or tactical instructors such as myself can on demand deliver 4-5 shots per
second at 7 yards with 100% accuracy.

                      • A great day for me is a .17-.18 cadence.
                        • Albeit this level of skill still requires being able to deliver, on demand and based on the circumstances:
time, distance to the threat and the size of the target a controlled .35-.50 or even greater cadence.
                        • In layman’s terms: we don’t want to outdrive our headlights…
