A be liev er will sub mit to the des ti ny cre at ed by Allah, will em brace, as much as he can, the events

he en coun ters, will take pre cau tion ary meas ures and seek to turn all events in an aus pi cious di rec -
tion, but will live in the aware ness and ease im part ed by know ing that they all take place with in his
des ti ny and that Allah has al ready determined them in the most aus pi cious form.

In the Qur’an, Allah re fers to a pre cau tion tak en by the Prophet Yaqub (as) for the se cu ri ty of his
chil dren. In or der that they should not at tract the at ten tion of ev il ly dis posed per sons, the Prophet
Yaqub (as) rec om mend ed that his sons en ter the city by sep a rate gates, but al so re mind ed them that
this could nev er al ter the des ti ny ap point ed by Allah:

He [Jaqub] said, “My sons! You must not en ter through a sin gle gate. Go in through dif fer ent gates. But I
can not save you from Allah at all, for judg ment comes from no one but Allah. In Him I put my trust,
and let all those who put their trust, put it in Him alone.” (Qur’an, 10:67)
Allah reveals in an oth er verse that no mat ter what they may do, peo ple can not change their des -

             ti nies:
Then He sent down to you, aft er the dis tress, se cu ri ty, rest ful sleep over tak ing a group of you, where as
an oth er group be came prey to anx ious thoughts, think ing oth er than the truth about Allah—thoughts be -
long ing to the Time of Ignorance—say ing, “Do we have any say in the af fair at all?”’ Say, “The af fair be -
longs en tire ly to Allah.” They are con ceal ing things in side them selves which they do not dis close to you,
say ing, “If we had on ly had a say in the af fair, none of us would have been killed here in this place.” Say,
“Even if you had been in side your homes, those peo ple for whom kill ing was de creed would have gone
out to their place of death.” So that Allah might test what is in your breasts and purge what is in your

hearts. Allah knows the con tents of your hearts. (Qur’an, 3:154)
As can be seen from this verse, even if peo ple avoid an aus pi cious, re li gious ob ser vance in or der
to save their lives, they will still die if that is what is writ ten in their des ti ny. The meth ods to which

such a person will re sort in or der to avoid death are al so de ter mined in that des ti ny, and ev ery one
will ex pe ri ence what has been de ter mined for them.
In this verse, Allah also states that the events cre at ed in peo ple’s des ti nies are in tend ed to test
them and cleanse their hearts. In Surah Fatir, it is re vealed that ev ery on e’s life span is de ter mined in

             the Sight of Allah:
Allah created you from dust and then from a drop of sperm and then made you into pairs. No female be-
comes pregnant or gives birth except with His knowl edge. And no liv ing thing lives long or has its life
cut short with out that be ing in a Book. That is easy for Allah. (Qur’an, 35:11)

The fol low ing vers es from the Holy Qur’an re veal that ev ery thing a per son does has been writ ten
line by line and relate the events ex pe ri enced by the peo ple of Paradise as events which have already
