The existence of destiny and the scientific evidence
. . . Allah’s com mand is a pre-or dained de cree. (Qur’an, 33:49)
If all events are cre at ed in a sin gle mo ment and if we ob serve these on ly with in our per cep tion of
time, then we must con clude that there is a Creator Who knows all these events from the very be gin -
ning, Who is not sub ject to time, Who sees these things as we ex pe ri ence them and Who there fore cre -
at ed them.
This Creator, Who cre ates for us im a ges, sounds and tast es—in short, the ex ter nal world, as well
as the per cep tion of time—must be aware of the cir cum stan ces and ex is tence of all that He has cre at -
ed, and must ob serve them at all mo ments. This Great Creator, Who caus es us to per ceive all these
things and re veals them to our minds, must keep them un der His con trol at all times. Allah, Lord of
the worlds, the Sublime and Almighty, is the Creator of all things. The fact that He knows and cre ates
the con di tion of all things shows us the fact of des ti ny.
A pe ri od of time last ing bil lions of years for us is but a “sin gle mo ment” in the Sight of Allah. So-
mething that for us will take place in the fu ture is al ready over and done with in the Sight of Allah.
We ob serve the fu ture with in the con cept of time that we per ceive. The fact is, how e ver, that any thing
we need to wait for al ready ex ists in the Sight of Allah. All events that will take place in the fu ture ha-
ve al ready done so in the di men sion of time less ness.
In the Sight of Allah, ev ery thing from the mo ment of the cre a tion of the uni verse to the Last Day,
when the uni verse will come to an end, is al ready over and fin ished with. One main rea son why peo -
ple are un a ble to un der stand this con cept prop er ly is that they are un a ware of it. The fact is that events
“that have not yet tak en place” have sim ply not yet been ex pe ri enced with in our per cep tu al world.
Allah is un fet tered by time and space. He cre ates time and space out of noth ing. He has no need
to wait in or der to see the re sult of an event. Its be gin ning and end all take place in a sin gle mo ment
in His Sight. The past and present are all laid out be fore Him and de vel op in the man ner de ter mined
by Him.
Dr. Jim al-Khalili de scribed this fact dur ing a pro gram broad cast
on BBC ra dio:
If you take this block of 4-D space/time
lit er al ly, it means you
have to aban don
free will. It means
not on ly is the fu ture
pre-or dained, but it’s al -
ready there, it’s al ready hap -
pened. There’s no point in mak -
ing any de ci sions, what ev er you do
has al ready hap pened. If I choose to drop
this stone in to a pond, I think of it be ing my
own free choice. But of course in 4-D space/time,
I had no choice in drop ping the stone; the splash is al -
ready there in the fu ture, and so we lose all free will. 145
In the Sight of Allah, everything, from the moment of the creation of
the universe right up to the Last Day when the universe will come to
an end, has already taken place and is over and done with. Allah is
unfettered by space and time. He is the Creator of space and time. All
events are but “a single moment” in His Sight. Past and future are al-
ways ready formed before Him and take place as determined by Him.
