I think the troub le that peo ple have with this idea is that you think the fu ture is un der your con trol, to some
de gree. And so, this means that if the fu tur e’s laid out, then in a sense it’s not un der your con trol. 148

Since most peo ple wish to be in con trol of their own lives, they re ject the fact of des ti ny. Yet they
fall in to a se ri ous er ror by do ing so, be cause wheth er or not they wish to, wheth er they ad mit the fact

or not, peo ple live their own des ti nies. People’s very de ni al is al so ap point ed in their des ti ny!
It will be use ful to re call that liv ing in sub mis sion to on e’s des ti ny is a great bless ing and brings
great peace of mind. People ex pe ri ence great pan ic and dis tress if they think that events are ac tu al ly

un der their own con trol. They then im ag ine that ev ery event in the fu ture will be their own re spon -
si bil i ty, and they feel the weight of ev ery event on their own shoul ders. They feel that they must re -
solve all dif fi cul ties on their own. Unable to see the aus pi cious side of the func tion ing of events, they
ex pe ri ence great dis tress in the face of events. They grow proud in the face of the tri umphs they ac-
hieve, which feel ing may re sult in se ri ous harm in this world and in the Hereafter.

The dif fi cul ties they ex pe ri ence, on the oth er hand, lead to in creas ing
pes si mism, emp ti ness and stress.
But know ing that ev ery event takes place with in a

des ti ny de ter mined by Allah and be liev ing that all
events are cre at ed for good is one of the great est bless -
ings a per son can en joy. Living in sub mis sion to the
des ti ny ap point ed by Allah means ac cept ing His
will and vol un tar i ly sub mit ting to ev ery event de -

ter mined by Him. People will then be freed from
the feel ing that events are un der their con trol, will
feel rid of troub les, will know that they are liv ing

events that are al ready over and done with, and will
en joy the peace of mind that this im parts. Submission
to des ti ny is a great bless ing for any one who knows that
all things are cre at ed to be aus pi cious. Even events that
may ap pear to be troub les or dif fi cul ties are in fact

pos i tive and even tu al ly re sult in great good.
