As for those who have
set up a mosque, caus -
ing harm and out of
un be lief, to cre ate di vi -
sion be tween the be -
liev ers and in read i -
ness for those who pre -
vi ous ly made war on
Allah and His Messenger,
they will swear: "We on ly de sired
the best." But Allah bears wit ness
that they are tru ly liars. Do not ev er
stand in it. A mosque found ed on fear of
[and re spect for] Allah from the first day has
a great er right for you to stand in it. In it there are
peo ple who love to pu ri fy them selves. Allah loves those
who pu ri fy them selves. (Surat al-Tawba: 107-08)
Allah says in the Qur'an that He re vealed knowl edge of
the Unseen to our Prophet (saas), such as the hyp o crites' lies,
traps, and hid den true in ten tions. The hyp o crites pre sent ed
them selves in the best pos si ble light, but, by Allah's will, our
Prophet (saas) could recog nize their re al char ac ter from their
fa ces. This was in deed a great mir a cle. No one who sees a per -

son per form ing many acts of wor ship, act ing and speak ing like
a Muslim, call ing him self as a Muslim, and even go ing to war
along side our Prophet (saas) could ev er re al ize that such a
