WISDOM AND SOUND ADVICE FROM THE TORAH





                     the com mands and de crees I have giv en you and go off to
                     serve oth er gods and wor ship them, then I will cut off... the

                     land I have giv en them... (1 Kings, 9:6-7)

                     ... Be care ful to fol low all the com mands of the Lord your
                     God, that you may pos sess this good land and pass it on as an
                     in her it ance to your de scend ants for ev er. (1 Chronicles, 28:8)

                     ... He [Zechariah] stood be fore the peo ple and said, "This is
                     what God says: "Why do you dis o bey the Lord's com mands?
                     You will not pros per. Because you have for sak en the Lord, He
                     has for sak en you." (2 Chronicles, 24:20)


                     Whoever does not obey the law of your God... must sure ly be
                     pun ished by death, ban ish ment, con fis ca tion of prop er ty, or
                     im pris on ment. (Ezra, 7:26)

                     ... O our God, what can we say aft er this? For we have dis re -
                     gard ed the com mands You gave through Your ser vants the
                     Prophets... (Ezra, 9:10-11)


                     We have act ed very wick ed ly to ward You. We have not
                     obeyed the com mands, de crees and laws You gave Your ser -
                     vant Moses. "Remember the in struc tion You gave Your ser vant
                     Moses, say ing, 'If you are un faith ful, I will scat ter you among
                     the na tions, but if you re turn to Me and obey My com mands,
                     then even if your ex iled peo ple are at the far thest ho ri zon, I
                     will gath er them from there and bring them to the place I have
                     cho sen as a dwell ing for My Name'." (Nehemiah, 1:7-9)

                     You warned them to re turn to Your law, but they be came ar -

                     ro gant and dis o beyed Your com mands. They sinned against
                     Your or di nan ces, by which a man will live if he obeys them.
