... A ma li cious man dis guis es him self with his lips, but in his
heart he har bors de ceit. (Proverbs, 26:23-24)
As long as I have life with in me, the breath of God in my nos -
trils, my lips will not speak wick ed ness, and my tongue will
ut ter no de ceit. (Job, 27:3-4)
Why do you boast of evil, you mighty man? Why do you
boast all day long, you who are a dis grace in the eyes of God?
Your tongue plots de struc tion; it is like a sharp ened ra zor, you
who prac tice de ceit. You love evil rath er than good, false -
hood rath er than speak ing the truth. You love ev ery harm ful
word, O you de ceit ful tongue! Surely God will bring you
down to ev er last ing ru in: ... He will up root you from the land
of the liv ing. (Psalms, 52:1-5)
Let their ly ing lips be si lenced, for with pride and con tempt
they speak ar ro gant ly against the right eous. (Psalms, 31:18)
The words of his mouth are wick ed and de ceit ful; he has
ceased to be wise and to do good. (Psalms, 36:3)
Like a club or a sword or a sharp ar row is the man who gives
false tes ti mo ny against his neigh bor... As a north wind brings
rain, so a sly tongue brings an gry looks. (Proverbs, 25:18, 23)
A ly ing tongue hates those it hurts...(Proverbs, 26:28)
Save me, O Lord, from ly ing lips and from de ceit ful tongues.
(Psalms, 120:2)
... Your lips have spo ken lies, and your tongue mut ters wick -
ed things. No one calls for jus tice; no one pleads his case with
in teg ri ty. They re ly on emp ty ar gu ments and speak lies; they
con ceive troub le and give birth to evil. (Isaiah, 59:3-4)
