Badshot lead the way

Badshot Lea 3 Tilehurst Panthers 0
Badshot Lea continued the perfect start
to their Thames Valley Counties League
Division One campaign with a 3-0 home
win over Tilehurst Panthers, their sixth
       straight victory.
A well contested match saw the
visitors match the league leaders in
much of their play but Badshot had the
edge in clinical finishing to take the
       three points.
Both teams moved the ball neatly
in a pacy and lively opening but defences
were generally on top in the opening half
hour. The exceptions were when Nicky Jefford tries to hold off the attentions of Deanna Cave
Marianne O'Byrne struck the post on 14 (www.jamesprickett.co.uk).
minutes for Badshot from distance or
when the same player delivered corners into the Tilehurst box.
It was from another fine effort from outside the box that Badshot took the lead
on 35 minutes. Eleanor Blake, later to depart with a nasty injury, rattled the underside
of the bar from 25 yards and Nicola Moore was on hand to head home the bouncing
       ball.
Tilehurst returned very positively after the break, pressing hard for an
equaliser but were unable to fashion any clear cut chances against a rock solid home
       defence.
In virtually their first attack of the half, Badshot were awarded a penalty for
handball and Becky Munro converted the rebound after Maalani George had saved
her spot kick on 56 minutes.
The lead was further extended by a calm finish by Munro after being neatly set
up ten yards from goal on 75 minutes. Despite some strong late pressure from a
resilient Tilehurst team, Badshot Lea were able to preserve their clean sheet with
some outstanding defensive blocking and clever interceptions which meant that
keeper Jodie Gray-Piazza had barely a difficult save to make.
Badshot Lea moved further ahead of nearest challengers Long Crendon after
this convincing result with Tilehurst Panthers remaining in a creditable third place.
