Internationals meant that the action in the SBS Scottish Women’s Premier League was
confined to SWPL 2 on Sunday, but a full fixture programme went ahead.
Two teams head the table with maximum points from their first two matches,
headed by newly promoted Aberdeen after they raced to a 9-0 victory away to
Boroughmuir Thistle.
After having come from behind to win 4-3 in their opening fixture, the Dons took
that momentum into this game and were two ahead inside the opening five minutes,
thanks to goal from Bailley Collins and Bayley Hutchison. Johan Fraser made it three on
the half hour and Eilidh Shore further increased their lead ahead of half time. After the
break, Hutchison netted her second and Jenna Penman made it six midway through the
half. Shore completed her double ten minutes later and after Francesca Ogilvie joined them
on the scoresheet, Hutchison rounded off the scoring five minutes from time with her
hat-trick goal.
Hamilton Academical are the other team on six points as they won a much
closer affair, 1-0 against Kilmarnock who were starting their campaign a week late.
Indeed, a tight match was settled with just three minutes remaining, when Georgina
McTear scored the only goal of the game for the Accies.
Partick Thistle are in third place after their meeting with Dundee Utd
finished in a 1-1 draw. Thistle got off to a flying start as Clare Docherty put them in front
with only five minutes on the clock but United hit back after the break, earning themselves
a share of the spoils and registering their first point when Jade McLaren equalised midway
through the second half.
Glasgow Women had been the opening day leaders but they went down to
their first defeat, 2-0 at the hands of Queen’s Park. Mhairi Crooks opened the scoring for
the Spiders during the first half, before Louisa Boyes wrapped up the win with the second
goal in injury time.
