The three remaining matches in SWPL 1 were played on Sunday, after the other games had
already been played in midweek, meaning each team has now played five games.
With Rangers and Glasgow City having already played, Celtic had the opportunity to
join them on fifteen points when they played at home to Hamilton Academical, which they
duly took with a 6-0 victory.
Jacynta Galabadaarachchi netted a goal in each half to spearhead the victory whilst
Clarissa Larisey, Menghu Shen, Chloe Craig and Olivia Fergusson also joined her on the
scoresheet. The result was not quite enough to topple Rangers as leaders but takes Celtic back
into second place.
Motherwell meanwhile moved up into fifth place as they ran out 4-0 winners over
Glasgow Women. Carla Boyce opened the scoring midway through the first half and she
netted a second on the half hour. Lori Gardner made it three after the break, before Amy
Anderson added the final goal from the penalty spot, six minutes from time.
Spartans also picked up their second victory of the season, 2-0 against Aberdeen.
Alana Marshall gave Spartans the lead early in the second half and Rebecca Galbraith sewed up
the points when she scored the second.
There were no matches played in SWPL 2 on Sunday, due to the teams being involved in
the First Round of the Scottish Women’s Premier League Cup.
St Johnstone have won every match they have played in the league this season but have
gone out of the Cup, beaten on penalties by Kilmarnock after the teams had battled out a 2-2
draw. Mhairi Crooks gave Kilmarnock the lead, with Morgan Steedman bringing Saints level to
take the game into extra time. Steedman then scored her second to put her team ahead during
extra time but Killie hit back to equalise with a header from Chloe McCance and they went on to
win 5-4 from the spot, Mhairi Fyfe slotting home the winner following a save from Lauren
McGregor.
