We go back to the B & B to rest up for dinner. We are pretty
worn down and ready to go home. We go to dinner at the Clare
Inn. We hope to have a dinner that compares with the lunch
we had there earlier in our trip. Unfortunately that is not the
case. We have another inferior meal. Guess Joe’s great meal
really spoiled us totally for anything else. The price is £16 plus
10% service charge and our waitress let us know that she
wouldn’t be getting any of the 10%. Since the meal was nothing
special for the price, we aren’t very sympathetic but did leave
£2 on the table for her.
I unzip and expand my bag one more notch to get the wool
throw I’d purchased to fit. I plan to check my bags in O’Hare
and take only my carryon bag to M’s condo in Chicago. I didn’t
know at the time that wasn’t going to work out.
I hesitate to mention it to M but I feel something is wrong with
our host and hostess who seem suddenly rather cold to us. I
finally bring up the subject and M agrees wholeheartedly. I say
that I don’t usually fret about other people’s moods but there is
such a drastic change in their demeanor that we both are
puzzled. After a lengthy discussion about what we could have
done to offend them, ranging from being IRA members to not
paying enough for our local phone calls or not buying anything
at the daughter’s little store, we go to bed.
