VACATION LEAVE
Employees requesting vacation leave must submit a written leave request in advance to their
Supervisor. Supervisors will be responsible for ensuring all requests for vacation leave are timely
considered and sufficient hours have been accrued prior to approval. Supervisors may require
vacation leave requests two-weeks in advance of taking leave and more than two-weeks’ notice may
be required dependent upon departmental needs. Whenever there is a need for unscheduled use of
vacation leave, an employee is required to notify his or her Supervisor as soon as possible, but no less
than one hour prior to the start of the first workday to be affected. Such leave will only be granted in
exceptional or compelling circumstances.
A maximum of 240 hours of vacation leave may be carried over at the end of each calendar year at
which time the employee will forfeit all hours more than 240 hours. It is the responsibility of the
employee to monitor when they are getting close to forfeiture. Supervisors may, but are not required
to assist an employee’s leave planning to avoid such forfeitures.
It is Police FCU’s practice for active officers and employees to take at least forty (40) consecutive
hours of vacation annually. This practice is an important internal safeguard and sufficient to comply
with the intent of the FDIC’s goal that all financial institutions have a vacation policy which provides
that active officers and employees be absent from their duties for an uninterrupted period of time
annually.
