able to be involved, computer and internet problems over the past
month, the committee are determined to resolve some of the issues
that have had to be dealt with since November.
We ask all members to confirm addresses, telephone and email details
when rejoining.
It is essential that new members are encouraged to join and new
committee members are required to fill vacancies and ensure enough
committee members can attend meetings and essential tasks carried
out.
We look forward to anybody that can help in a number of tasks from
simply helping at the regular monthly meetings in the Mowlem (Sept to
April) such as helping set up and put away tables and chairs, serve teas,
take names at the door to specific help in administration and committee
matters that take place either at committee meetings or that can be
carried out in members own homes, as and when they choose. Please
let us know if you think you can help or be more actively involved.
In the summer a visit was organized at short notice to Scotland farm
near Corfe where Terry Jenkins gave members and friends a guided tour
of the old cottage, the barn and his and volunteers workshop where
they work on carts and carriages, repair items and make wooden items
for sale. The barn is open most days and Terry is always willing to tell
visitors about the history of the farm now owned by the National Trust.
The cottage lived in until 2017 by a tenant farmer will probably be
renovated and used by the trust as visitor accommodation. It is not
known when this will be carried out. The planned meetings for
September and October had to be cancelled due to speakers and venues
not being able to be booked. In November the society held its first
indoor meeting. The committee presented the council with copies of
the Survey and local nautical archaeologist, Nick Reed gave an
interesting and informative presentation about the stories behind the
people involved or affected by 3 shipwrecks off Swanage coast.
