Welsh Chapels in abundance!
In September, we spent a week staying in
Llanidloes, mid-Wales, a quiet little market town
surrounded by hills, with a history of lead
mining, weaving and flannel mills industries in
the past. It lays claim to the first town on the
river Severn
Our comfortable cottage had been a sweet
shop before being converted.
There were 4 large chapels all within a short
distance from each other, all built in the 1800’s
with similar design. The Calvinistic Methodist
Chapel is no longer used but can seat 900!
The Baptist Chapel was next door to our
cottage and across the street facing the Baptist
Chapel was the United Reformed Chapel which
also hosts Quaker meetings in their school-
room. Prayers and ribbons for Ukraine were
attached to the railings and a Prayer walk led
up to the doors.
God’s confirming promise ‘We have this hope as an anchor for our
lives. It is safe and sure….’ Hebrew 6v 19, this heart-warming
statement is in the porch of St Idloes, the Parish Church, peacefully
situated above the banks of the Severn. Donna
PURBECK COAST WANTS YOU!
You probably know that some of our lovely
members volunteer in support of the Swanage
Pier Trust. The trust that owns and manages our
iconic pier also has a community radio station. Lex is the host of
the Tuesday Breakfast Show, and is always keen to interview local
talent (that’s you!) for the programme. If you’d like your voice to be
heard and your message to be shared, have a chat with Lex. He
tells me he’s very gentle with his guests and all of them, so far,
have enjoyed the experience!
