Dear Wave Friends and Supporters in Prayer
It is the second month of the new year… already! We hope that your aspirations for
2024 is well on its way to be achieved. Our aspiration for the year is to pursue
opportunities where young people can encounter Christ through connecting with His
people. That involves not just hearing the good news about Jesus, but for them to see it
lived out through Christ’s people. There is a national crisis regarding children, young
people and families being part of the Church, but we still have plenty of opportunities to
engage with the younger generations in our community. We just need to take them!
How have we started 2024?
Remix | Youth Open Mic Night
A highlight of the past month has been when a young person showed his gratitude to us
because he was able to secure his place at uni. He explained that his experience at
Remix has enabled him to lead other musicians and this has been instrumental in
helping him secure his place at uni to further pursue music.
Remix has also been a blast during January because we gained a couple more
volunteers who used to be part of Remix as young people but are now young adults.
Their help and presence have added to the existing atmosphere, and we look forward to
how they will help the young people flourish!
Rooted | Youth Club
Rooted/Hangout is still part way through its journey from open youth group to a youth
group with a definite Christian element.
Originally starting off as two life groups for different age categories, Rooted was merged
into one group in order to run an Alpha Course, grew really well and then dwindled to
almost nothing post Covid.
Berno and Richard decided to ‘re-water and fertilise’ the fig tree and thankfully, it’s had
a bit of a resurgence. The young people who attend are mix of churched and
unchurched, some also attend Remix and through Rooted/Hangout are now attending
Christian Unions at the schools.
Last year we introduced a ‘Think Slot’ where we give the young people an opportunity to
explore big questions and gave the leaders an opportunity to engage with them as
people who have faith in Jesus - these 15-minute slots often stretch on to the end of the
evening as youngster continue to ask questions or add their own thoughts.
Christian Unions (CU) | Secondary School Lunchtime Clubs
We have started a new theme at CU this term which builds up to Easter. So far we have
looked at how the Bible describes God’s character, how people are made to reflect that,
and the life God intended us to live. As the term progresses, we will continue to look at
humanity’s problem and how Jesus solves that.
